Rooted in Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetics and clean architectural balance, the Kanso Tapered Silk Floor Lamp pairs an imposing conical base with a tailored silk-fiber shade. M
We have ten foot ceilings and smaller floor lamps always looked insignificant. Standing nearly five feet tall the Large Kanso lamp fills the vertical space with effortless grace.
M
Even when switched off in the morning the tapered ivory form looks like a piece of contemporary gallery art. The subtle texture of the silk adds depth that plain paper shades simply cannot match.
E
We ordered the Large fifty nine inch lamp for our living room corner. When illuminated the natural silk fibers give off this warm translucent ivory glow that softens the entire space. It feels like an authentic Japanese wabi sabi sculpture.
T
We turn off our overhead recessed lights every evening and leave this silk lamp on. The soothing diffused glow instantly slows down your breathing after a hectic workday.
C
The power cord includes a clean floor switch so you can toggle it on with your toe when walking into the bedroom. Very thoughtful and practical design touch.
A
You can see the individual spun silk threads wrapped tightly over the diffuser. The transition between the conical base and the upper shade is completely seamless. A truly heirloom piece.
G
The shade is a rich natural ivory rather than stark sterile white. It looks completely at home next to our white oak credenza and linen sofa.
R
The internal acrylic diffuser and silk wrap create relaxing ambient warmth across the room. If you are looking for bright focused light to read fine print you might want a task lamp beside it.
D
Shipping a five foot silk fixture across the country sounded risky. The lamp arrived inside a thick reinforced cardboard cylinder with molded foam padding protecting every single inch.
J
Because the shade surface features real woven silk fibers you should handle it with clean dry hands during setup. Once placed in position it looks stunning and feels very high end.
B
At four feet tall the Small version is balanced next to our leather armchair. The 3000K warm light filters gently through the silk shade without direct glare into your eyes while reading.
H
I was curious how sturdy the conical base would feel. The interior iron frame gives it plenty of weight at the bottom so it sits completely grounded on our wool rug without any tilting.
